"The Lover of Princess Kaguya" is a Sailor Moon side story written by Naoko Takeuchi. It was adapted into Sailor Moon S: The Movie and later a musical: Kaguya Hime’s Beloved.
Summary[]
After being saved by Kakeru Ohzora, Luna begins to fall in love with him. His longtime friend Himeko Nayotake is on the verge of going to space for the first time as a comet, Princess Snow Kaguya, appears changing their plans. Kakeru's health deteriorates as it approaches the Earth and the Sailor Guardians investigate the stellar object.
Plot[]
The story takes place in December roughly toward the end of the Infinity arc. Unlike the other short stories, it does not quite fit in the main storyline as Super Sailor Moon appears and the other Senshi have heart-shaped brooches despite the Holy Grail being obtained the same night Pharaoh 90 is defeated which led to the Outer Sailor Guardians leaving until the end of the Dream arc.
It opens with Kakeru Ohzora catching a shard from the sky with an ominous voice targeting him for doing so. Setsuna, Michiru, and Haruka are late for a joint birthday party at Fruits Parlor Crown for Minako and Makoto. Ami, Rei, Usagi, Chibiusa, and Mamoru are also there to celebrate as they are served by Motoki and Unazuki. The cats are even later. Diana is happy to make it but Luna blames Artemis for their tardiness and he blames her for making him pick her up every time. They celebrate as snow starts to fall. On another day, Luna has been guilt tripped by everyone into trying to pick up Artemis for once but she does not want to. Last time she went past the major intersection a group of kids ganged up on her and put band-aids on her crescent mark. When she reaches the intersection this time, it happens again. As she is running from the kids in a daze, she runs into the street and sees a car coming toward her as she blacks out.
