Information[]

Prior to Sailor Moon Crystal[]

As the Guardian of Space and Time, Pluto stays forever confined to the Door of Space and Time. She is believed to even exist, but remains solitary even in the lifetimes of Princess Serenity and her dear mother. When she was a child, Queen Serenity warned her of three taboos she must never break: to guard the Space-Time Door, not to allow others to travel through time, nor use her powers to stop time.

However, after the Silver Millennium is attacked by the Dark Kingdom, she and the other two Outer Sailor Guardians are drawn together and her Garnet Orb along with Sailor Uranus' Space Sword, and Sailor Neptune's Deep Aqua Mirror, resonate causing Sailor Saturn to awaken. It was then that she watched in horror as Sailor Saturn swung down her Silence Glaive and obliterated all that was left of the Moon Kingdom. Sailor Pluto was reborn and continued her mission to protect the Time Door.

One day during the era of the second Silver Millennium, Sailor Pluto meets Princess Usagi Small Lady Serenity after she had wandered down a forbidden corridor and went through the Door of Space and Time. She and the princess soon become friends, with Pluto assuring her that she and her mother are very alike and that she will one day grow to be as strong as her.

After Crystal Tokyo is attacked by the Black Moon Clan, Small Lady steals one of Sailor Pluto's time keys and travels to the 21st century.

Black Moon arc[]

As Sailor Moon, Sailor Venus, Luna, Artemis, and Tuxedo Mask all approach the Door of Space and Time, she immediately blocks their path, stating that she will eliminate any intruders who trespass on holy ground. She uses her incredibly strong Dead Scream attack that causes great pain to them all, but is stopped by Small Lady, who begs her not to kill them. Realizing her error, she apologizes and agrees to open the Space-Time Door to enable the others to enter the 30th century. Although she is offered to come with them, she explains that she can’t move from beyond that point.

Moments later, she is surprised to see King Endymion himself show up with Sailor Moon, Sailor Venus, and Tuxedo Mask. The King explains that it is an emergency and she gives Sailor Moon a time-traveling key from her waist. Later, she is surprised to see Small Lady return to her alone and is comforted when the young princess assures her that are the closest of friends; and always will be.

In Act 21, she is happily talking with King Endymion, assuring him that his daughter can handle herself. She is glad to lend her strength to Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Venus in any way she can. She soon finds Small Lady’s time key, leaving her desperately worried for the young princess, as she cannot defend herself or even leave without the key in her possession. She is then overwhelmed by a fiercely violent storm and immediately realizes that it is gradually ripping apart the rules she is to guard.

In Act 22, she is still gravely concerned for Small Lady’s well-being and warns Tuxedo Mask and the King of a powerfully deadly storm that is causing a very dangerous ripple in space-time itself. When Sailor Moon returns with the rescued Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, and Sailor Jupiter all safe and sound, Pluto informs them about Small Lady’s sudden disappearance and that Tuxedo Mask went after her, causing the increasingly violent time-space storm to rip apart the very rules she defends.

In Act 24, she grows increasingly worried about Sailor Moon and the others; particularly Small Lady. Regardless that she is forbidden to leave her post, she still yearns to see what lay beyond the Space-Time Door she guards. Diana, then sweetly comforts and surprises her; saying that she will be glad to watch over the Space-time Door in her place. Deeply relieved, Pluto runs through the door into the outside world for the very first time. She arrives just in time to see Black Lady; whom she is shocked to realize is in fact Small Lady. As Prince Demande succeeds in seizing the two Silver Crystals of both the past and future, Sailor Pluto immediately realizes that a major collision of two artifacts of such great power will mean complete obliteration of everything and everyone in both eras.

In Act 25, horrified at what is coming, Sailor Pluto uses her Garnet Rod's strongest and most forbidden ability-she commands all of time to stop entirely. Having violated the third and last taboo, she falls to the ground, greatly weakened. She assures Usagi that she did not mind, as she always wanted to fight alongside her fellow Sailor Guardians and that she has always admired Sailor Moon. Turning to King Endymion, she remembers how she loveshis lavender cloak as it reminds her of a sunset, and says that she is ready to atone for a crime she committed. She tells Usagi to quickly retrieve the two Silver Crystals from Prince Demande because time would not remain frozen for long. When Usagi has done as she asked, Pluto then dies, glad that she was able to help. Neo-Queen Serenity assures the other Sailor Guardians that Sailor Pluto will rest peacefully in the Crystal Palace.

Sailor Moon Crystal Season III[]

Setsuna is a student at K.O. University in the 21st century. She belongs to the science department fundamental physics section majoring in theoretical physics. She later meets Haruka and Michiru and becomes good friends with them; especially learning they are also Sailor Guardians who defend the kingdom of the Moon from outside invaders as she does. By calling out Pluto Planet Power, she transforms into her regular Sailor form of Sailor Pluto to fight enemies that threaten Earth of all timelines and realities.

Sailor Pluto is shown as a shadowy form in a dream seen by a teenage girl and Mamoru, holding her Garnet Rod. When the witch, Tellu, uses her creation called Telluns to gather more souls for Pharaoh 90, Setsuna falls victim to one of them. It is then that she remembers her past and her duty as a Guardian, awakening as Sailor Pluto. The Inner Guardians fight Tellu and after the witch transforms into a daimon, she attacks Sailor Chibi Moon, but she suddenly arrives and destroys the villain with Dead Scream, to the surprise and recognition of Sailor Chibi Moon.

Sailor Pluto, along with Sailors Uranus and Neptune, bow down before Sailor Moon (who has become Princess Serenity) and tells her and the others they are charged with protecting the Solar System from outside forces, but the Death Busters were able to slip into the system using the warped space in the Omega Area. She and Sailor Neptune help Sailor Uranus when she is attacked by Cyprine and the witch attacks all three of them. Sailors Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus all arrive, but Cyprine binds the two groups and uses her mind control abilities to have them attack each other. She is surprised to see her Garnet Orb resonate with the Holy Grail, thus enabling Sailor Moon to transform into Super Sailor Moon.

Sailor Pluto later says that her talisman, the Garnet Orb, has activated similarly once before; when the first Silver Millennium era; during the time of Queen Serenity and Princess Serenity. Although she is forbidden to leave her post at the Space-Time Door, her talisman, as well as those belonging to her fellow Sailor Guardians of the Outer Solar System, suddenly resonate, calling upon the last and strongest of the Sailor Guardians from the taboo planet: Sailor Saturn. She watches as Sailor Saturn swings down her Silence Glaive reducing all to ruin and nothingness.

She leaves with Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune in an attempt to destroy Hotaru to prevent Sailor Saturn's awakening within her. She is shocked to see Sailor Chibi Moon arrive at Hotaru's home, but is too late to save her from the evil entity that has fully resurfaced. She can only watch in horror as the female entity seizes the Prism Heart Compact, which causes Sailor Chibi Moon to revert to her normal form, killing her. She notices that her Garnet Orb did not react, which leads her to believe that the form Hotaru has taken is not Sailor Saturn, but someone else altogether.

She parts ways with Sailor Moon and the others to find Mistress 9 and put an end to her whatever it takes. She later sees Sailors Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus snared by sticky goo. She uses Chronos Typhoon to release them, and checks to see if they are alright. She combines her strength with the other eight Guardians which enables Sailor Moon to become Super Sailor Moon again. In the heart of Mugen Academy, she splits from the four Inner Guardians to go with Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune, and Super Sailor Moon to go deeper in search of the source of the Diamons. When Professor Tomoe welcomes their arrival, she uses Chronos Typhoon against the swarm of Daimon. When Germatoid is destroyed by Super Sailor Moon, she uses Garnet Ball to create a pale pink force-field around her and the others to get out of the collapsing building.

She later uses her Garnet Rod to help Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune create a shield all around the Academy to stop Pharaoh 90 from spreading beyond the area. She is equally shocked when Sailor Moon uses Moon Spiral Heart Attack against Mistress 9, but it proves ineffective.

As she has to maintain the force-field, she is forced to watch Mistress 9 extract the spirits of the four Inner Guardians and how they were saved by Hotaru. She is relieved to see Sailor Chibi Moon, alive and well, and attack Mistress 9 head-on with Pink Sugar Heart Attack. She then joins her Guardian powers with the six Guardians and the Holy Grail appears, enabling Sailor Moon to become Super Sailor Moon once again. She is amazed when a second Holy Grail appears before Sailor Chibi Moon and gives her the power to become Super Sailor Chibi Moon. As Pharaoh 90 merges with Mistress 9, he has managed to break the shield, causing her to collapse. She watches in horror as Super Sailor Moon jumps right into Pharaoh 90 to unleash the increasingly mighty powers of both the Holy Grail and the Silver Crystal to destroy him. She is astounded when her Garnet Orb suddenly activates, triggering the awakening of Sailor Saturn herself. When Sailor Saturn says that she must swing down her Silence Glaive, Pluto knows immediately that doing so will result in the complete annihilation of everything and everyone. She watches in horror as Sailor Saturn unleashes one of her strongest and most destructive attacks, which has Pharaoh 90 gradually stripped of his strength and vitality, and causes the earth to shake violently as a gravely weakened and damaged Pharaoh 90 is forced to separate from the earth's surface. Pluto watches helplessly as Sailor Saturn swings her Glaive downward on its edge.

Before the world can end, however, Super Sailor Moon returns and Pharaoh 90 begs to die in his home-world of the Tau Star System. Sailor Saturn suddenly urges her to seal the wormhole to the forbidden Tau System for eternity. She is reluctant to do so, as it will also seal Saturn along with him, but the Guardian of Silence says that she must hurry. She then calls on the great power of her guardian deity of Chronos himself and forever seals the Door using Dark Dome Close. The effect has sucked the deteriorated Pharaoh 90 and Sailor Saturn right into it before it shuts for eternity. Super Sailor Moon becomes Neo Queen Serenity and uses the mighty healing powers of the Spiral Heart Moon scepter to revitalize the Earth. Super Sailor Pluto then hears the cries of a newborn and notices immediately that she is none other than Sailor Saturn herself; her spirit/soul reborn and reincarnated as Hotaru yet again. She, along with Super Sailor Neptune and Super Sailor Uranus, vow to raise the infant as she is all alone in the world. When asked where she will go, Pluto assures Super Sailor Moon and the others that they will surely meet again someday.

Sailor Moon Eternal[]

Setsuna is working at the Tokyo Bay Observatory for her research during the solar eclipse. During the solar eclipse, she has a ominous feeling since the four of them began living together. After the moon is behind the sun completely, she sees Lemures as the Dead Moon Circus has arrived, when she attempts to transform and investigate where they came from she is shocked that that she can’t transform at all.

Sailor Moon Cosmos[]

Setsuna works as a nurse at the Juban Public Elementary School.

Sailor Senshi Info[]

Even when not transformed, she is still capable of using the great time/space-based powers of her Garnet Rod to defend herself and see visions of imminent danger of future events; similar to Rei's psychic abilities.

She has a few standard offensive attacks she uses against enemies.

Sailor Pluto has space-time abilities. She can create rifts in space itself and travel through time as well as grant the ability to others via a Time-Space key. She can detect anomalies in the time-stream easily.

Like the other Sailor Guardians, she can create a force field for protection; capable of withstanding extensive damage by attacks. She can also call upon the great power of Chronos himself and use his powers to strengthen her space-time abilities and open or close the door to any other world for eternity.

Her strongest attack is to stop all of the time entirely; though this is the third taboo, and is forbidden. If used, Sailor Pluto will die. Being a time keeper, she is practically immortal; living outside of time itself and existing in any era. She can also use her Garnet Rod to teleport others to her and erect a force-field. She can also use the mystical abilities of her Garnet Orb, in conjunction with the other two talismans, to create a very strong triangular shield.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike the 90s anime, her civilian form doesn’t appear until the appearances of the Deep Aqua Mirror, the Space Sword, and the Holy Grail.
  • She is the only Sailor Guardian whose tiara gemstone is not her signature color. Pluto's signature color is black, but the gemstone on her tiara is colored garnet-red; the very same color as her earrings and the Garnet Orb on her mystical time-space staff.
  • Her initial character design has her brooch and earrings colored blood-red, as depicted in the official Black Moon Clan trailer. This is changed to garnet-red in the show, from "Time Warp - Sailor Pluto" and onward.
  • In Sailor Moon Crystal, garnet red and white roses appear in the backdrop of Sailor Pluto's signature pose as she gives her introductory speech.
