Template:InfoboxCharacter Saphir is a member of the Black Moon Clan, and the younger brother of Prince Dimande.
In the manga
In the manga, Saphir prefers to work with droids (the most minor of the clan's minions) over serving his unpredictable, easily swayed older brother. He even attempts to question the intentions of Wiseman, and the wisdom of Prince Demand in listening to everything he says. Prince Demand reacts violently to this, accusing him of wanting the power for himself. When Prince Demand kidnaps Sailor Moon and brings her to his castle on Nemesis, she stumbles into Saphir's laboratory, where he admits that their plans were insensible and that she was guiltless, but attempts to kill her. Saphir states that he wishes to kill her because he believes all conflict comes from her and the fearsome power of the Silver Crystal. This prompts Neo-Queen Serenity to activate Sailor Moon's crystal, allowing her to transform even on Nemesis. The power pouring out from Sailor Moon causes Nemesis to become unstable. Saphir and Prince Demand are rescued by Black Lady, who leads them to Wiseman's castle. Wiseman attacks them with a mind controlling spell and loans Saphir the use of his "Demon Hands". When it is revealed that Demand's "Evil Eye" rendered him immune to Wiseman's spell, Saphir attacks him and is killed by his brother.
In the anime
Saphir doesn't fight at all in Sailor Moon R. He only follows out his elder brother's orders, Saphir is the one who knows how to build or decrease the power output of their black crystal and he does so according to Diamond's wishes. He also suspects Wiseman of having evil intentions and silently watches him. He soon discovers that Wiseman is only using Prince Dimande and plans to kill him once he is done.

Wiseman kills Saphir
He barely escapes and makes it to the past where Petz lives. There he is reunited with Petz, whom he was in love with. He attempts to warn his older brother about Wiseman, but even with the Sailor Senshi attempting to help him, he was killed with two energy blasts from Wiseman. Saphir's head was bandaged by Petz earlier, and when the bandage fell off, there was no dark crescent moon on his forehead, proving his firm transition to the side of good.
Trivia
- Saphir is the second evil henchman to turn good and then die. The first was Nephrite. Dimande himself becomes the third, though Wiseman was attempting to kill Sailor Moon at the time. Then fourth became Fish Eye and after him, the fifth became Sailor Lead Crow.
- In the Japanese version, he only addressed his brother (Dimande) as "oniisan" (which is "elder brother" in the Japanese language) but the fact that they were brothers was omitted for most of the span of the English dub of the show.
- In a lot of other translations of the series, he is called Sapphire.
- Early concept art suggests his name would have been Sapher.
