To progress to the next plot line, Usagi has to move through steps and get through each challenge. The challenge is where the player has to match three pieces in a row in order for the pieces to vanish and the player to gain points, which increase if such a move causes more than one set to align. The player is given a set number of moves they are allowed to make in order to complete the challenge. The challenge is complete once the player gets a certain number of points. At the end of each stage, a monster appears on the final level. When confronting a monster, there will be a certain set of pieces that can deplete its HP and must be defeated within the number of moves. It also has a number set up when pieces not on the list that cause the number to decrease. When the number hits zero, it changes the list, so new set pieces are needed to damage it.

===Events===

===Events===
The game often runs events in which the players can play special maps to obtain new characters and items for a limited time. The obtainable characters in these events are often the main characters in their civilian forms, though characters such as Sailor V and Luna in her human form have their own events as well. In addition to this, some special events can take place around holidays such as Halloween and Christmas in which the players can obtain a character in a seasonal costume, such as Haruka in a vampire costume and Usagi in a Santa outfit. Some events can also return as re-run events, giving players another chance to get the  character or giving them the opportunity to earn more items if they already have the character.

Some events can also return as re-run events, giving players another chance to get the character or allowing them to earn more items if they already have the character.

Another important thing to note is that in addition to the event maps often varying depending on the character that can be won, some events also offer unique items that can't be found in other events. The item can be a wallpaper or, in the case of the Sailor V and Princess Kaguya's Lover events, an event-only episode. It's also worth noting that these items or attributes are mainly seen in the seasonal events. Another type of event is the bingo event, which was recently added. This type of event is where bingo cards replace the courses. Each card consist of nine levels, all of which are randomly chosen for the player to start on. The player must get a certain amount of bingos to unlock the next bingo card. In order to collect the character the bingo event is about, the player must get a black out on each card (meaning the whole card must be full bingo). 24 bingos will unlock the character to its 1-3 level; inorder to max out the character to level 5, you must get 40 bingos. Each card can has 8 bingos total. So far, there have only been two bingo events, Tuxedo Mask and Black Lady.

=== Login Bonus ===
The game first featured login bonuses on the week of Sailor Mars' birthday. This type of login bonus is called the Birthday Login Bonus, which would celebrate a specific Sailor Guardian's birthday; this would start six days before the sailor guardian's birthday and end on their birthday. Before Birthday Login Bonuses were added, the game would send a notification on the day of a sailor guardian's birthday; including Tuxedo Mask. These notifications only featured Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi-Moon (they have the same birthday), Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus, and Tuxedo Mask. The first two birthday login bonuses for the game were for Sailor Mars and Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi-Moon; overtime, more sailor guardians had login bonuses. These bonuses provided players with growth stamps, heart stamps, and booster items. After Sailor Moon's birthday, regular login bonuses were added into the game.

These login bonuses, known as monthly login bonuses, happen every month and reward the player with time keys, heart stamps, growth stamps, booster items, and gems. There is another type of login bonus similar to monthly login bonuses, that would reward the player with prizes during certain events. So far the only events that featured a special login bonuses were the Sailor Saturn event and Manga Princess Serenity event. This type of bonus would reward the player with growth crystals, growth stamps, heart stamps, and booster items.

* The Crown Game Center was only released in the Japanese version of Sailor Moon Drops. International versions of the game had a coming soon in place of the Crown Game Center since the first update of the game. As a result of the C.G.C being exclusive to Japan, Motoki was never released in to international versions of the game. Through datamines, it was discovered Motoki and his event were localized and was meant to be released in January of 2017 along with the C.G.C but was never released. His data was in the game since 2016 but was eventually removed in a 2018 update.

* The third season of the game revolves around two story plots, the story from the anime and the story from the manga and Sailor Moon Crystal. This is apparent as in the first anime plot Pluto dies in the third season and Sailor Moon sacrifices the Holy Grail to Mistress 9, but in the game Pluto not only survives, but she along with Sailor Chibi-Moon help during the final battle against Pharaoh 90. Which in the first anime the two were absent as Chibi-Moon was at Mamoru's apartment recovering from her coma, and Pluto was killed off in the helicopter explosion. This was changed to the ending of Sailor Moon Crystal where the three outer guardian were never in a helicopter but instead showed up to the final battle with Sailor Moon and the inner guardians. And Sailor Moon never gave up the grail, instead like in the ending of crystal, she jumps into Pharaoh 90 with the grail and Silver Crystal. However Chibi-Moon and the rest of the guardians do not become Super Sailor Guardians when Saturn appears like in crystal. This was probably because season 3 of the game was in development while season 3 of Sailor Moon Crystal was airing.

"Sailor Moon Drops" (セーラームーンドロップス, Seeraa Muun Doroppusu) is the first mobile game app of the Sailor Moon franchise. It was available for Android and iOS since the fall of 2015. In 2016, the game became available on the American iTunes app store. It has been officially shut down on March 28, 2019, in Japan and internationally.

Plot

The plot mirrors that of the 1990's anime and currently, it covers the Dark Kingdom, Black Moon, Death Busters, and Dead Moon arcs in the English version; while the Japanese version covers the Dark Kingdom, Black Moon, Death Busters, Dead Moon, and Stars arcs.

Game play

To progress to the next plot line, Usagi has to move through steps and get through each challenge. The challenge is where the player has to match three pieces in a row for the pieces to vanish and the player to gain points, which increase if such a move causes more than one set to align. The player is given a set number of moves they are allowed to make to complete the challenge.

Special Pieces

  • Stripe - Stripe pieces are created when clearing sets of four instead of three and when a Stripe piece is aligned with other pieces, the piece can clear a row or column depending on how the Stripe piece was originally aligned during its creation.
  • Popper - Created when the player makes a move that clears both a column and a row, creating a T or L shape. Poppers can clear all pieces surrounding it when activated, regardless if they match.
  • Prism - Created when matching a set of five pieces. When a Prism is switched with another piece, all pieces matching vanish from the board.
  • Paint - Created when a single move removes six pieces. Its color depends on whichever piece was set up to create it. When the Paint is swapped with another piece, all pieces matching the one switched change to the color of the painted piece.

Special Piece Combinations

Two special pieces can be combined to have greater effects on the board than just regular special pieces do. Any two adjacent gems can be swapped to combine them regardless of their color and the pieces surrounding the two special pieces.

  • Stripe + Stripe - Destroys all gems in a cross shape with a width of one gem.
  • Stripe + Popper - Destroys all gems in a cross shape with a width of three gems.
  • Stripe + Paint - All gems of the Stripe's color are changed to that of the Paint piece and all resulting gems are Stripe pieces. The resulting Stripe pieces are activated immediately.
  • Popper + Popper - Destroys a five by five square of gems twice.
  • Popper + Paint - All gems of the Popper's color are changed to that of the painted piece and all resulting gems are Popper pieces. The resulting Popper pieces are activated immediately.
  • Prism + Prism - All gems on the board are destroyed.
  • Prism + Popper - All pieces of the Popper's color are turned into Poppers and are activated immediately.
  • Prism + Stripe - All pieces of the Stripe's color are turned into Stripes and are activated immediately.
  • Prism + Paint - All pieces on the board are changed to that of the painted piece and then destroyed.
  • Paint + Paint - All pieces on the board are changed to the color of the moving paint piece and then destroyed.

Events

The game often runs events in which the players can play special maps to obtain new characters and items for a limited time. The obtainable characters in these events are often the main characters in their civilian forms, though characters such as Sailor V and Luna in her human form have their events as well. In addition to this, some special events can take place around holidays such as Halloween and Christmas in which the players can obtain a character in a seasonal costume, such as Haruka in a vampire costume and Usagi in a Santa outfit.

It's also worth noting that these items or attributes are mainly seen in seasonal events. Another type of event is the bingo event, which was recently added. This type of event is where bingo cards replace the courses. Each card consist of nine levels, all of which are randomly chosen for the player to start on. The player must get a certain amount of bingos to unlock the next bingo card. To collect the character the bingo event is about, the player must get a blackout on each card (meaning the whole card must be full bingo). 24 bingos will unlock the character to its 1-3 level; to max out the character to level 5, you must get 40 bingos. Each card can have 8 bingos in total. So far, there have only been two bingo events, Tuxedo Mask and Black Lady.

Login Bonus

The game first featured login bonuses on the week of Sailor Mars' birthday. This type of login bonus is called the Birthday Login Bonus, which would celebrate a specific Sailor Guardian's birthday; this would start six days before the sailor guardian's birthday and end on their birthday. Before Birthday Login Bonuses were added, the game would send a notification on the day of a sailor guardian's birthday; including Tuxedo Mask. These notifications only featured Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi-Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus, and Tuxedo Mask.

So far the only events that featured a special login bonus were the Sailor Saturn event and Manga Princess Serenity event. This type of bonus would reward the player with growth crystals, growth stamps, heart stamps, and booster items.

Trivia

  • The Crown Game Center was only released in the Japanese version of Sailor Moon Drops. International versions of the game had a coming soon in place of the Crown Game Center since the first update of the game. As a result of the C.G.C being exclusive to Japan, Motoki was never released into international versions of the game. Through data mines, it was discovered Motoki and his event were localized and were meant to be released in January 2017 along with the C.G.C but were never released. His data was in the game since 2016 but was eventually removed in a 2018 update.
  • The third season of the game revolves around two-story plots, the story from the anime and the story from the manga and Sailor Moon Crystal.
    • This is apparent as in the first anime plot Pluto dies in the third season and Sailor Moon sacrifices the Holy Grail to Mistress 9, but in the game, Pluto not only survives but she along with Sailor Chibi-Moon help during the final battle against Pharaoh 90. Which is the first anime the two were absent as Chibi-Moon was at Mamoru's apartment recovering from her coma, and Pluto was killed off in the helicopter explosion. This was changed to the ending of Sailor Moon Crystal where the three outer guardians were never in a helicopter but instead showed up to the final battle with Sailor Moon and the inner guardians.
    • Sailor Moon never gave up the grail, instead of like in the ending of crystal, she jumps into Pharaoh 90 with the grail and Silver Crystal.
    • Chibi-Moon and the rest of the guardians do not become Super Sailor Guardians when Saturn appears like in crystal and the manga.
    • The altered ending was possible because season three of the game was in development while season three of Sailor Moon Crystal was airing.
  • The first season of the game has the most unlockable characters, five characters, with seasons 2,3, and 5 all have three unlockable characters, and season 4 having the least, two unlockable characters.
  • The game likes to include some elements from the manga and Sailor Moon Crystal, for example, all the Shitennou have their Four Kings of Heaven attire in the game but are only in the Crown Game Center and Prince Endymion's level 5 special attack.
  • One of the cut pieces of the game's files is a reference to an episode of the first anime of Sailor Moon, Naru's Tears: Nephrite Dies for Love, as it is Nephrite with a piece of Naru's pajamas around his arm; in his hand, he is holding a spoon. Which are a reference to his death and the promise he made to Naru to have a parfait with her. Her special attack in the game called "Let's Go Out for Parfaits Sometime!"
  • Out of all the characters in the game, there are more Sailor Moons in the game than any other character. This includes 11 Usagi Tsukino's, 5 Sailor Moons, 2 Super Sailor Moons, Eternal Sailor Moon, 3 Princess Serenitys, 2 Neo-Queen Serenitys, 2 partner Sailor Moons.
  • For the longest time, the in-game store where you can make micro-transactions was called the Tuxedo Mask Store, but was changed to Store after Tuxedo Mask became playable in his event.
  • In the Japanese version of the game, for some unknown reason, Sailor Star Maker was added to the game towards the beginning of the Dead Moon arc; however Sailor Star Fighter and Healer were added in towards the end of the Stars arc.
  • For the longest time in the game's file, Mistress 9 was meant to be a playable villain however she was never released in either version of the game. She had been in development around the same time Black Lady was released in the English version. Placeholders for her character icon were found in the game's files.
  • Although the game's Dead Moon arc only featured Nehelenia and Zirconia as villains, Fish-Eye was made as a playable villain despite not appearing in the arc. He along with Tigers-Eye and Hawks-Eye were featured as figures in the Crown Game Center.
