"Sailor Crystals" are special Star Seeds which belong to every Sailor Guardian.

Etymology[]

A common method to grow crystals is to start with a small seed crystal which will kick-start the nucleation process. A large crystal will grow starting from that tiny seed.

Appearance[]

The Sailor Guardians of the Inner and Outer Planets all possessed Sailor Crystals that were heart-shaped. Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi Moon's crystals were usually teardrop shaped, but could open into lotus-shaped crystals. The Golden Crystal differed based on the source material: It was lotus shaped in the manga, but the anime it was an octahedron. Each Sailor Crystal has a distinctive colour.

Regardless of their original shape, when forcibly taken by Shadow Galactica, their Sailor Crystals become coloured octahedron, like normal Star Seeds, with the exception of Usagi's Silver Crystal which remained lotus shaped in the 90's anime.

Sailor Galaxia's sailor crystal is unique in that it is a crimson-red octahedron in the 90s anime before becoming something completely different. In the manga, it is not a single coloured crystalline object like all the others rather it is a golden object with multiple colours and a red gem in the middle which retains its shape upon her death.

Information[]

Manga[]

Everything originates in the Galaxy Cauldron and are made from Star Seeds. Newborn stars are born from star seeds themselves and have special star seeds sent to grow alongside them which mature to become Sailor Crystals which form the core of the Sailor Senshi who guard those worlds. Young sailor crystals are refereed to as seeds.

Sailor Crystals contain everything that makes Sailor Guardians who they are. They are the source of their powers and are resilient. They are also linked to the Sailor Power Guardians which are an intrinsic part of Sailor Senshi and both form their core.

Sailor Crystals are not necessarily the only star seeds Senshi have. Usagi and her friends have "human" star seeds in addition to their Sailor Crystals.[1] Senshi typically store their Sailor Crystals in their brooches,[2] but they can be sealed away until they fully awaken to their powers. The Solar System Senshi can directly call upon their Sailor Crystals to transform (for example: Venus Crystal Power, Make Up).

Shadow Galactica collects Sailor Crystals from across the Milky Way galaxy. Sailor Galaxia and her subordinates obliterate their victims leaving only their Sailor Crystals behind. They collect these and bring them back to Sagittarius Zero Star to be stored in Garden Crystals. Alone, these Sailor Crystals only give off a faint glow but when brought together they shine with a brilliant light. Galaxia also uses Sailor Crystals with Galactica Bracelets to empower mortals, the Sailor Animamates, with the power of a Senshi.

90s Anime[]

Sailor Crystals are not mentioned in the anime, but Shadow Galactica is searching for "true star seeds" which are special star seeds that only Sailor Guardians have; though, the Sailor Animamates, who are tasked with collecting them, are unaware of this. "True star seeds" don't turn black and create a Phage when removed and continue to glow for all time. Sailor Galaxia seeks them.

When Eternal Sailor Moon's star seed is extracted by Sailor Galaxia in the penultimate episode, it is revealed to be the Silver Crystal itself just like in the manga. Mamoru has a golden octahedron star seed, and the other Solar System Sailor Senshi have coloured octahedron true star seeds similar to the manga.
