Princess Kakyuu (火球皇女, Kakyuu Koujo) is the princess of the planet Kinmoku and that planet's Sailor Guardian Sailor Kakyuu (セーラー火球, Seeraa Kakyuu). She fled to Earth after her planet was destroyed by the Shadow Galactica empire in the manga.

Etymology[]

"Kakyuu" (火球) can be translated to "fireball", "shooting star" or "comet".

"Koujo" or "Oujo" (皇女) is the Japanese term for "imperial princess".

Kakyuu Koujo can thus be translated to "Princess Fireball".

Appearance[]

Princess Kakyuu[]

Kakyuu has long red-orange hair and dons a long deep red dress with blue in the bodice and puffy sleeves. She has a black crown and blue ribbon around her neck that resembles a flower.

Sailor Kakyuu[]

Sailor Kakyuu's uniform is reminiscent to that of her Sailor Starlights' but hers has many unique elements. Her crown is the same as in her princess form. She has a star tiara like the Starlights. The pins in her hair and choker are the same as her princess form as well. The choker is a blue ribbon with blossoms in the center. She has a breast-piece like the Starlights but orange-red. Her collar is also red. She has puffy armbands that are translucent orange. Her skirt is like her princess skirt, but shorter. It consists of many orange-red translucent petals. Her shoes curl into a point at the tips. Like the Starlights, she has a Sailor Change Star brooch which is a star with wings.

Information[]

Background[]

Princess Kakyuu is the Sailor Princess of the Tankei Kingdom of planet Kinmoku and that world's Sailor Guardian: Sailor Kakyuu. There she lived with her guardians, the Sailor Starlights, and her beloved. One day she saw the light Usagi and Mamoru gave off during their coronation and wanted to meet the Senshi of that solar system. Sometime in the next few months, Shadow Galactica attacked Kinmoku. Kakyuu was injured and escaped after watching her love die and her planet be annihilated.[1] She fled to Earth where she had seen that light. The Sailor Starlights followed her and began searching for her, but were unsuccessful. They started the Three Lights idol group and started singing Nagareboshi He begging their princess to show herself to them as they became more popular widening the reach of their message.

Stars Arc[]

In Act 51, Chibi Chibi lands in the park in Tokyo and she climbs up a playground structure to find the Princess asleep, surrounded by blossoms. Kakyuu can hear the message of her guardians but is too weak to respond to them and listens to stories of them and Sailor Moon regaled by Chibi Chibi as she rests inside her Incense Burner at Usagi's Home.

Eventually, Seiya notices that Incense Burner while visiting Usagi and returns with Yaten and Taiki to retrieve it. Chibi Chibi refuses to hand it over. Princess Kakyuu emerges from it and reveals herself to the Three Lights and tells them Chibi Chibi had been taking care of her. The Starlights resume guarding her and she meets Usagi and tells her about Shadow Galactica and herself. She later agrees to guide Usagi to Sagittarius Zero Star where Shadow Galactica is based.

There she, Sailor Moon, Sailor Chibi Chibi, and the Sailor Starlights encounter the Desert Rivers of Oblivion and Memory. The group falls in and everyone loses their memories. Sailor Mnemosyne lets Kakyuu drink from the Desert River of Memory and she regains herself as the Starlights remain comatose. When Mnemosyne convinces Sailor Lethe to let them pass, Sailor Chi and Sailor Phi appear and execute the pair and engulf the Sailor Starlights in a blue flame and takes their Sailor Crystals. Sailor Moon holds Kakyuu back as Sailor Chibi Chibi protects them. They resolve to retrive those Sailor Crystals as with them they can be revived and continue toward Galactica Palace.

After their encounter with Sailor Heavy Metal Papillon and the return of Sailor Chibi Moon and the Sailor Quartet, they arrive at the Star Garden and encounter Sailor Chi and Sailor Phi again. Kakyuu announces that she will fight alongside them and uses Kinmoku Star Power, Make Up to transform into her Sailor Senshi form. She attacks with Starlight Royal Straight Flush, breaking the Garden Crystals surrounding them hoping the Starlights' Sailor Crystals were in them. Sailor Phi uses Galactica Plants Blizzard, but she counters with Kinmoku Fusion Tempest. When Eternal Sailor Moon destroys Sailor Phi's bracelets and disappears, Sailor Chi stabs Sailor Kakyuu from behind with her staff. In her last words, she tells Usagi she wants to be reborn together again even if there is still fighting. Kakyuu then passes away in Usagi's arms. Sailor Moon resolves to use her Silver Crystal to end the war and finishes Sailor Chi. Sailor Chibi Moon pushes Sailor Moon away from Kakyuu's body as Sailor Venus destroys her corpse and takes Kakyuu's Sailor Crystal.

Trivia[]

  • The Sailor Starlights are her protectors much like Usagi's Inner Sailor Guardians and Chibiusa's Sailor Quartet, but unlike those groups she only has 3 Guardian Senshi.
  • Princess Kakyuu's scent of sweet osmanthus was changed to the scent of lilacs in the Mixx manga.
  • In the 90's anime and musicals, she never used her Sailor Kakyuu form but she does use her Kinmoku Fusion Tempest attack in the musicals.
  • Princess Kakyuu is one the few Sailor Senshi whose apparent civilian name and Sailor Senshi name are identical, as "Kakyuu" doesn't seem to directly refer to the name of her Kingdom (Tankei) or her planet (Kinmoku).
