Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon The Super Live is the 36th Sailor Moon Musical advertised as a 2.5D musical like many others. Unlike other musicals, it was developed for an international audience with less emphasis on Japanese speech. Like the Nogizaka46 musical, this musical adapts the Dark Kingdom Arc of the Sailor Moon manga.
Information[]
The Super Live was initially announced to be performed in Paris as part of Japonismes 2018, which was a series of cultural events that celebrated the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relationships between France and Japan.
The show had a preview performance in Tokyo, Japan from Aug. 31st to Sep. 9th 2018 at the AiiA 2.5 Theater. The Paris, France performance was from Nov. 3-4th 2019 at the Palais des CongrĆØs de Paris. On October 25th, before the Paris performances, the Sailor Moon official site announced that the Super Live would be coming to the Cherry Blossom Festival Opening Ceremony in Washington, DC. Later, dates for a New York City performance would be released as well. These announcements along with the Paris performances would mark the first time a Sailor Moon musical would be performed in both the USA and France.
The Washington DC performance included a brief concert featuring, the encore numbers, at the Cherry Blossom Festival Opening Ceremony on March 23rd, 2019 and a full run of the show on March 24th, 2019 at the Warner Theater. The New York City performances occurred a week later on Friday March 29th, followed by two showings on Saturday March 30th at the PlayStation Theater on Broadway in Manhattan, New York.
After the bulk of the COVID-19 pandemic, from April 7-9, 2023, an additional set of 4 performances were done in Taipei, Taiwan.[1] "Team Taipei" is made of actresses from the original shows with some new faces. They performed in the Yat-sen Memorial Hall.
Plot[]
The Super Live is a very loose adaptation of the Dark Kingdom Arc. It has almost no dialogue and a minimum number of songs. The show mostly expresses itself through extensive dance choreography and acrobatics, due to being developed for an international non-Japanese speaking audience.

Trivia[]
- This is the first musical to only include one Shitennou. The Neo Shitennou included Kunzite but was still a team of four with analogues of the other members.
- Two cast members were in previous Sailor Moon musicals.
- Riona Tatemichi (Tuxedo Mask) was previously Sailor Star Maker in Le Mouvement Final, Hawk's Eye in Amour Eternal and Rubeus in Petite ĆtrangĆØre. In 2022, she would reprise this role in the 30th Anniversary Musical Festival -Chronicle-.
- Yui Hsageawa (Team Note/America Sailor Mars) was previously Viluy from Un Nouveau Voyage.
- The cast that performed in the U.S. was a combo of the Music Note cast and the Diamond Cast. It included Tomomi Kasai as Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon (originally from Team Blue Musical Note), Momoko Kaechi as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury (originally from Team Blue Musical Note), Yui Hasegawa as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars, Kanna Matsuzaki as Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter (originally from Team Yellow Diamond) and Yu Nakanishi as Minako Aino/Sailor Venus.
- The cast that performed at the Usagi 2019 Special Birthday event consisted of the exact same cast as the American performances except for Sailor Mars who was played by Kyoko Ninomiya of Team Yellow Diamond.
- Kyoka was originally scheduled to play Queen Beryl in the Pink Heart and Yellow Diamond cast however could not perform due to illness and therefore Makoto Aikawa took on the role of Queen Beryl for all performances.
- On May 14, 2022 The Super Live was a part of the Japan Day parade in New York City.[3] The 5 Senshi were on a float and included Usagi, Ami, and Rei from Yellow Diamond and Makoto and Minako from Blue Musical Note reprising their roles from years prior. They were on a float as Moonlight Legend played and at one point stopped and danced to that song.
