Summary

After Rei has a vision of the world being destroyed by some unknown threat, she is attacked by a youma that Sailor Moon is unable to beat. After the Senshi attacks have failed to beat their new enemies two unknown figures, Neptune and Uranus, emerge and defeat the youma.

Plot

Rei has a vision of the world being covered in darkness and of her fellow Senshi along with the rest of Tokyo have been turned to stone. A blast then begins to destroy everything including Sailor Moon, Mercury, Jupiter, and Venus. Rei then sees a bright light that splits into three separate lights that appear before floating away.

The following day the girls are together at Hikawa Shrine to study for an upcoming test, but Rei is distracted because of her vision and Usagi is sleeping. Once awakened Usagi is reminded that she needs to be studying more than any of them because of her previous exam scores.

Else where a man (Professor Tomoe) is experimenting with a pod in a testube, he starts laughing and tells his assistant, Kaolinite, that their work is complete and that all that is left is to find the three talisman's that are hidden within three Pure Heart Crystals. Once all three of the talismans are gathered a Holy Grail will appear which will grant the user great power. The man then releases a Daimon Egg and his assistant leaves with it.

After failing her English test Usagi is thinking about what Mamoru would say if he found out, only for Mamoru to appear and tell her he's postpong their next date to give Usagi more time to study. Rei then heads back home where the Daimon Egg has been absorted into a tree on the shrine grounds. Rei tries fire reading to hopefully give her more insight on the dream she had, but isn't able to see anything. She decides to place a tag on the wish tree and as soon as she finishes the tree transforms into a "Heart Attacked" named Mikuji Rei tries to escape from Mikuji and transform but before she can she is pinned to a wall by her detachable stone hands. Mikuji then fires a dark beam of energy at Rei which makes a light emerge from her chest and Rei begins to scream in pain.

Walking near the area Usagi and Luna hear Rei's scream, Usagi transforms into Sailor Moon and attempts to save Rei but Mikuji proves to be too strong. The rest of the girls appear and attempt to help but are all pinned like Rei before they can transform. Tuxedo Mask appears and distracts Mikuji but is disabled like the others as well. Sailor Moon then attacks with Moon Princess Halation, but to everyone's surprise it has no effect.

Mikuji then pins Sailor Moon to a tree where she then bites onto her heart compact which breaks it, the Silver Crystal deactivates and Sailor Moon reverts into Usagi. After having stopped all interferences Mikuji returns to Rei and fires more of the blast into her which causes a crystal to emerge from within her which Mikuji reveals to be a heart crystal. Once Rei passes out two energy blasts come from nowhere and hit Mikuji which transforms her back into a tree which the egg falls out of, breaking on the ground.

Two mysterious figures dressed as Sailor Senshi look over Rei's Heart Crystal before determining it's not the one they seek and return it to Rei. Now that Mikuji has been defeated everyone that was pinned has become free and they all rush to Rei who regains consciousness. They all hug and then wonder who their newest enemy is.

Changes

Changes from the manga

  • Only one of the mysterious figures is dressed as Sailor Senshi. The other is wearing a costume resembling Tuxedo Mask's.
  • In the manga Mamoru is the main character who has dreams of the world destruction, although Rei also has some. Eventually all characters have such dreams, while in the anime, only Rei and Setsuna have them.
  • Kaolinite wears a completely different outfit that was primarily black. The outfit she wears outside of the lab resembles her outfit in the manga when she is disguised as Kaori.
  • Kaolinite takes direct orders from Pharaoh 90, not Professor Tomoe.
  • Daimons have a generic monstrous appearance and possess living people and animals, not plants inanimate objects.

First appearances

Trivia

  • This is the last time Sailor Moon transforms using "Moon Crystal Power, Make Up" and the last time she uses the Crystal Star; in the next episode, she uses the Cosmic Heart Compact along with the phrase "Moon Cosmic Power, Make Up".
  • This was the first episode dubbed into English by Cloverway inc., as well as the first in which Serena was voiced by Linda Ballantyne, Amy by Liza Balkan, and Mina by Emilie Barlow, who had previously voiced Raye in episodes 66 through 82 of the DiC dub.
  • The dubbed episode title most likely comes from the song Starstruck by classic hard rock band Rainbow. In the song, vocalist Ronnie James Dio repeatedly rhymes the word "starstruck" with the phrase "bad luck."
