Michiru Kaiou (ęµ·ēŽ‹ ćæ恔悋, Kaiō Michiru) is the civilian identity and present-day incarnation of Sailor Neptune.

Etymology[]

Michiru's name means "to rise" while Kaiou means "sea king." Her original English name Michelle a French feminine form of Michel, from the Hebrew name Michael meaning "Who is like God?"

Appearance[]

Civilian[]

Like several other characters from the original manga who appear in the anime, Michiru keeps the same appearance as her original incarnation, except with her hair shortened from long to medium length.

Her first outfit is a dark red long sleeve sailor uniform with a shades of green ribbon at the center of her uniform and a Mugen Academy emblem in the center of her uniform, green and black checkered skirt and black shoes and white short socks. The color of her uniform is black.

Her summer uniform is similar to Rei's as she wears a dark red vest, with a white short sleeve sailor uniform underneath her vest. She retains her shades of green ribbon, her green and black checkered skirt, socks and shoes from her winter school uniform.

Her primary casual outfit which is opposed to both Usagi and Ami's casual outfit. She wears a long cornflower blue formal jacket with a pale yellow long sleeve V-neck undershirt, dark blue long skirt and brown shoes. Her medium length teal hair is now tied in a high ponytail adorned with a purple ribbon at the center of her head. In Sailor Stars, she wears this outfit as her hair was loose instead of a ponytail.

Sailor Guardian[]

As Sailor Neptune, she retains her civilian appearance but wears a gold tiara on her forehead. Her sailor uniform's dominant color is teal (choker, linings of her gloves, tiara gem and skirt) and both her front and back bow is dark blue. Her choker was adorned with a single dark teal jewel with a gold trim on front that resembles a cross and wears a teal cross-lined heels to match her form. In her official art, the color scheme is depicted as sea green instead of teal.

In her Super Senshi form, she is like the rest of the Senshi as her sailor collar now has a single white stripe in each sides. Her dark teal jewel is now replaced with a gold star at the center, her teal brooch is now a heart shape and her dark blue back bow was now enlarged and lengthened.

Personality[]

She is very portrayed as elegant, sophisticated capable of sharp anger occasionally cold, and fully dedicated to her duty as a Sailor Soldier.

Background[]

Sailor Moon S[]

Michiru is Haruka Tenou's lover. Naoko Takeuchi explains that a feminine person and a masculine person would be attracted to each other even if they're both girls.

They agree that anybody who has a talisman must die, even if this means one of them kills the other.

Sailor Moon Sailor Stars[]

She returns in Sailor Stars and this time they are clearly on the same side as the Inner Sailor Senshi, though eventually in episode 197 she and Haruka sell their souls to Galaxia to avoid death so that they can continue to live together. Under Galaxia's control, Michiru and Haruka stole the Star Seeds from Sailor Pluto and Sailor Saturn, killing them. They then attacked Sailor Moon and the Sailor Starlights, using Deep Submerge and World Shaking, but the Sailor Starlights managed to protect Sailor Moon and Chibi Chibi from being injured. In episode 198, Michiru and Haruka reveal their betrayal as a ploy to obtain the powers needed to defeat Galaxia, breaking her control despite still wearing her bracelets and turning their heightened powers on Galaxia in a futile attempt to steal her Star Seed. Galaxia then removes their bracelets which are keeping them alive without their Star Seeds, with Haruka stating that they will be answering for their sins forever. Michiru says, "I can endure as long as I am with you, even if we are burned in the flames of hell". Sailor Moon is upset with them for deceiving them and actually believing her friends would betray her and Haruka asks Seiya to protect their princess because she is such a crybaby, which Michiru agrees with. Michiru reaches out to Haruka as they both are dying as she wants to feel her, managing to briefly connect their hands before they both faded away. Michiru, along with Haruka and everyone else, are revived in episode 200.
