Mio Kuroki is an idol who gains over-night popularity and becomes the rival to Minako Aino in the live-action series. She is the "shadow" of Queen Beryl sent to Earth to spy on the Sailor Senshi. In the Special Act she returns as Queen Mio, leader of the Dark Kingdom.

Etymology[]

The kanji of her surname "Kuroki" (黒木), reads as "black wood."

Mio's name is given in katakana. "Mio" written in kanji has the character for "beauty" (美). Proceeding it can be either the kanji for "cherry blossom" (桜, ou) or "thread" (緒,o).[1]

Appearance[]

Civilian[]

Mio has long dark brown hair in bangs and dark eyes.

Queen Mio[]

Queen Mio's character design reflects her status as queen of the Dark Kingdom. She wore a striped bodice accented with hearts, accompanied with a hot pink skirt. She also wore a pair of black gloves and stockings with a pair of ankle-high boots. Further accessories include a pink, fur-trimmed cape, a skull-capped wand, and her plush dog Choppi. A common theme of her wardrobe is a Valentine heart.

Personality[]

Mio appears to be a caring person on the outside. However, on the inside, she is selfish, conniving and manipulative. It was those later traits that exposed her to Minako, Naru and later Rei.

Information[]

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon[]

In Act 29, she transfers to Usagi's class, and became very popular with all of the students. Since Mio is a rival idol to Minako Aino, Usagi has mixed feelings about her. She hates Usagi, and tortures her repeatedly in devious ways that seem like accidents.

She was quickly suspected by Minako who knew she was an agent for the Dark Kingdom and was sent to harm Usagi. Naru saw through her as well. She and Minako warned Usagi to stay away from Mio.

Her cruelty eventually exposes her to Rei who told her off that she knew about how much she's harmed Usagi and Mamoru because Minako told her everything. She points out that she will tell her friend the truth about Mio's cruelty unless she allows them a day together. Mio allows it as long as she convinces Mamoru that he needs to say with Beryl to prevent a pivotal moment involving Princess Serenity using the crystal again.

Mio is later confronted by Metalia Endymion and she realizes too late her cruelty has indeed come back to haunt her. She screamed out for Usagi to help her, but he seemingly kills her right away.

Special Act[]

Mio returns in the Special Act As Queen Mio. She first injures Rei who discovers her. After kidnapping Usagi and Mamoru, she does what she can to convince him to be with her so they can rule a new Dark Kingdom as King and Queen. She also tries to make him kill Usagi, but she is foiled when the Shittenou convinces him not to because Usagi is his soulmate. Minako, Makoto, and Ami show up repowered to finish the job.

Mio becomes a plant monster to kill off the Shitennou and the Sailor Senshi. Ultimately, her final form is destroyed by Sailors Moon, MercuryJupiter, and Venus' combined powers, channeled through the Moonlight Stick in the Sailor Planet Attack.

Powers[]

Mio has mind control powers as well as the ability to injure people telepathically.

After her revival for the Special Act, she seems to gain new powers. She can repair objects, cause them to appear out of thin air, and create monsters from flames. She can also summon legions of Pierrot to serve her and gather energy. She even creates replicas of the Shitennou. Mio is also able to brainwash others and transform into a plant-like youma. At one point, she interrupts a television broadcast to announce that she is taking over. Mio immediately incapacitates Rei first so she can't warn the others about her plans.
