“Rubeus the Heartless: The Tragic Sisters” is the 26th episode of the 2nd season of Sailor Moon anime and the 72nd of the overall series. It aired in Japan on October 30, 1993. The DiC English dub for this episode is "Sibling Rivalry" and it aired in North America on November 21, 1995.
Summary[]
Petz and Calaveras kidnap their two 'traitorous' sisters, but they are defeated by the Sailor Guardians despite the power Petz has gained from a magical Stick given to her by Rubeus. Rebeus turns the Stick into a black hole in a bid to eliminate all of the Spectre Sisters and Sailor Senshi but it fails. Chibiusa was watching all of this from afar and learns the girls are the Sailor Guardians and that Usagi has the Silver Crystal she has been looking for. The four reformed Spectre Sisters open up a shop together in Juban Shopping District.
Plot[]
Wiseman tells Rubeus that only victory or death lies before him. Rubeus promises he is willing to sacrifice his pawns to defeat the Rabbit and Sailor Guardians. At Hikawa Shrine, Chibiusa, Koan , Berthier, Usagi, Minako, Makoto, Ami, Luna, and Artemis are helping Rei rake the leaves with the promise of sweet potatoes. Berthier notes the beauty of their surroundings and regrets her past actions and wants to help the girls combat the Black Moon Clan but is unsure how.
Through a magic mirror, Petz and Calaveras watch and are angry seeing the state of their two sisters. Petz promises Rubeus she will eliminate the traitors, Rabbit, and Senshi. Calaveras joins her and Rubeus gives Petz a magic Stick to help. At the shrine, Usagi is gorging herself on sweet potatoes when a bright light appears in the sky. It snatches Koan and Berthier and flies away. The girls leave Chibiusa inside as they go out and transform together. Chibiusa, watching through a window, learns the girls are the Sailor Guardians. The girls follow the light to a bridge as Chibiusa follows from a distance. Petz and Calaveras are using their sisters as bait and Calaveras wants to try the stick but Petz keeps it for herself. The Senshi arrive to save them and after a brief conversation Petz uses Dark Thunder which is stronger than normal and overpowers Sailor Jupiter's Sparkling Wide Pressure. Sailor Mercury identifies the wand as the source. Petz dodges Venus Love Me Chain with her newfound speed, deflects Burning Mandala, and takes down all five Senshi with another Dark Thunder.
Koan and Berthier cry out to stop Petz and warn her about Rubeus. Annoyed, Caleveras suggests Petz should finish off their prisoners. Petz obliges but attacks Caleveras along with the other two planning to take all three of her sisters down. The Senshi catch the injured sisters and Caleveras is surprised at their kindness and starts changing her mind about them. Caleveras tells the Senshi the stick's evil power has taken over Petz's mind so Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter work together to take it from her. Mercury blinds her with Shabon Spray, Venus disarms her with Venus Love Me Chain, and Jupiter knocks Petz down with Sparkling Wide Pressure. Koan, Berthier, and Calaveras console their sister but Petz is angry.
At this moment, Rubeus appears and congratulates Petz for succeeding in gathering the Spectre Sisters and Sailor Guardians. He promises Petz he always planned on taking the glory for himself and considers her expendable. He tells her to die with the others as he activates the stick. It creates a dimensional tear which starts sucking everything in. Petz tries to stop it by putting all of her strength into a Dark Power attack aimed at it but fails. As she starts falling in, her sisters catch and save her. Tuxedo Mask appears and tell them he is confident the Senshi can stop it if they combine their power. Artemis agrees and the Senshi jump into the rift together. They use Sailor Planet Power to destroy the stick and its black hole. Sailor Moon uses Moon Crystal Power to turn Petz and Calaveras into humans. Watching from a distance, Chibiusa realizes Usagi has the Silver Crystal she has been looking for. Rubeus was also watching through a magic mirror and now knows Sailor Moon has the silver crystal.
The Spectre Sisters are working together to run a makeup stall and argue as the girls watch and start arguing on their own.

Dub Changes[]
- In the DiC dub, the dialogue was written differently in that Petz and Calaveras took their sisters to try and get them to rejoin the Black Moon, rather than simply for execution.
- A scene where Minako tells Usagi that eating too many sweet potatoes will give her gas was changed in the DiC dub. The sweet potatoes are protein bars that Chad (Yurichiro) eats to gain muscle and Usagi getting gas from sweet potatoes is changed to Serena gaining weight from eating too many of them.

Trivia[]
- This marks the final episode in which Darien was voiced by Toby Proctor in the DiC English dub.
- This is the final episode to be dubbed in English in the 1995 run because of poor ratings in the show's new time slot and an old American broadcasting rule that states that syndicated shows are allowed to run for 65 episodes. Due to this, DiC dropped the show and did not buy the rights to the remaining episodes in the season until three years later when Cartoon Network, with support from sponsor General Mills, acquired the broadcasting rights and aired the show as part of their Toonami anime line-up.
