"I Won't Run Away from Love Anymore: Ami vs. Mamoru" is the 41st episode of the 1st season of the Sailor Moon anime and the 41st episode overall. It aired in Japan on January 23, 1993. The DiC English dub title for this episode is "Tuxedo Unmasked" and it aired in North America on October 31, 1995.
Summary[]
Queen Beryl orders the seven people gathered who had carried Rainbow Crystals, intending to combine them into one huge youma. Ami is determined to protect Urawa. Sailor Moon tries to heal Prince Endymion.
Plot[]
In a desert in Africa, Reika is doing some research when Endymion appears and traps her inside the Black Crystal. Endymion is planning to gather all of the people who were the Seven Great Youma and has already gathered all of the Seven Great Youma except Rei's grandfather and Urawa.
Ami receives a phone call from Urawa, who worriedly asks Ami to turn on the TV, which has a report of Yumemi Yumeno, who has gone missing. Yumemi was the fifth person who's been captured by Endymion and Urawa tells Ami that Rei's grandfather will be next. Ami asks where he is, telling him that she wants to protect him, but Urawa tells her to protect Rei's grandfather and hangs up.
After hanging up, he reveals that he had planned to ask Ami for help but he couldn't keep relying on Ami. Then he left the phone booth and walked down the street. Makoto, who was also walking down the same street, spotted Ryo, but at that moment, she got a call on her communicator from Luna telling her to come to Hikawa Shrine.
In the Dark Kingdom, Kunzite asks Queen Beryl why they were trying to capture the Seven Great Youma again. She told him that they could become Youma again if they use the power of the Black Crystal. Despite Kunzite pointing out that the Seven Great Youma had already been beaten by the Sailor Senshi, Queen Beryl announced that if they appeared together, they would combine to form an unstoppable Youma able to defeat the Sailor Guardians. Kunzite was vexed that Queen Beryl had sent Endymion to do the job, however.
In Rei's room, Makoto encourages Ami to go find and protect Urawa with her. Ami said that they didn't know where he was, but Makoto said that she saw him in town earlier. Makoto asked the others to look after Rei's grandfather and left with Ami.
It was snowing, and Endymion was looking for Urawa outside and eventually ran into him at a busy intersection. Urawa, thanks to his psychic powers, knew that Endymion was from the Dark Kingdom and Endymion's plan. Endymion, who knew that Urawa had psychic powers, asked Urawa if he knew what was going to happen, which he confirmed, stating Endymion was going to capture him into the Black Crystal. Endymion told Ryo to follow him quietly, but Ryo refused and yelled out, "A murderer! Help!" and ran away, causing a crowd to gather around Endymion.
Ami and Makoto were walking around town searching for Ryo. Ami asked Makoto to go back since they can't do anything about Urawa this way, causing Makoto to snap back that Ryo is her boyfriend. Ami denied this and simply stated they were just friends. Makoto was in disbelief that Ami would disregard her own feelings and claimed that Ami was simply running away from her own destiny. Makoto encouraged her and said it's alright even for Sailor Senshi to fall in love. Makoto told Ami that she had to be more honest with herself, despite her feelings.
Ami eventually spotted Ryo and ran to him and Makoto followed them. Sailor Mercury and Sailor Jupiter caught up with Ryo in an alley, until Endymion appeared. Sailor Mercury and Sailor Jupiter called him Mamoru, but Endymion simply stated that someone called him that before as well, failing to realize he is Mamoru. Sailor Mercury and Sailor Jupiter got in front of Ryo to protect him and Sailor Jupiter told Sailor Mercury to take Ryo to a safe place. Sailor Mercury took Ryo and left and Sailor Jupiter faced Endymion alone. Sailor Jupiter used Supreme Thunder against him, but it didn't have much effect on Endymion. Sailor Mercury called Luna and told her that she had Ryo.
Usagi and Rei were still fighting over the manga. Sailor Mercury informed them that Sailor Jupiter was fighting Endymion alone. She asked Sailor Moon to come so she can use the Moon Stick to heal Endymion back to Mamoru. Usagi and Rei stopped fighting, and Usagi agreed to go. Sailor Jupiter fought Endymion, but he was too powerful for her. Endymion had Sailor Jupiter against a wall and was about to hit her, but he stopped his punch in front of her face and commenting it would be too easy, before leaving.
Sailor Mercury and Ryo were running away. Then Ryo spotted a small amusement park and asked Sailor Mercury to go in with him. Usagi was running with Luna, and complaining that it was cold. Then Usagi fell and started crying. When Luna ran back to Usagi, Sailor Jupiter appeared. Sailor Jupiter told them that Endymion had escaped.
Sailor Mercury asked Ryo why he wanted to come here and he answered that it was his dream to go to an amusement park with her and now he has nothing to regret. Sailor Mercury refused, stating they don't know when the Dark Kingdom will appear. When Ryo said that it didn't matter what happens to him, Sailor Mercury tells him, "We are very similar. We're both always running away from things. My friend told me that I should be more honest with myself. It's splendid to sacrifice oneself. But don't you want to be honest with yourself and live on? Aren't you forgetting that there are people who will be very saddened if you die? We both should stop running away. We should go ahead and hit whatever hurdle we face."
Then, Endymion appeared standing on top of the Ferris wheel and caused it to light up. Endymion was waiting for all of the other Sailor Senshi to appear, but he agreed to fight just Sailor Mercury. Sailor Mercury used Shabon Spray, but Endymion simply moved to Ryo and used the Black Crystal to capture him. Sailor Mercury cried and vowed to not forgive Endymion. Endymion then challenged Sailor Mercury to break the Black Crystal to release Ryo if she could defeat him.
Sailor Mercury thought that she couldn't win, but fought anyway, using Shabon Spray. While Endymion blocked it easily, this turned out to be a feint, giving her an opportunity to take the Black Crystal away and throw it on the ground, destroying it. This restored the people who had been captured to their normal selves.
Sailor Moon and Sailor Jupiter arrived to fight Endymion, who said that he was going to beat up all three girls. Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Mercury used their Supreme Thunder and Shabon Spray attacks, immobilizing Endymion and rendering him unable to move. Sailor Moon then used Moon Healing Escalation to attempt to turn Endymion back into Mamoru.
Endymion started to recall some events from throughout the series, such as fighting with Usagi and going out with Rei. Luna tells Sailor Moon to increase the energy and when she does, the Moon Stick flashes and restores Endymion back into Mamoru. Shortly after, however, a black light formed around Mamoru and then disappeared, taking him away.
Queen Beryl had put Mamoru into a brainwashing capsule. Realizing Endymion's memory hadn't been erased, she decides to infuse Mamoru with Queen Metalia's energy to turn him evil permanently.
The girls and Ryo were at the amusement park. Ami and Ryo were riding the Ferris wheel together. The other girls were watching. Ami said, "Let's come again." Ryo blushed and said, "Okay."
Usagi said, "It's not good this way! If Ami-chan forgets about our important mission, who is going to be our leader?" Minako said, "That's supposed to be your duty." Rei said, "You're jealous of those two." Usagi said, "You too, Rei." They both gave each other angry looks. Makoto said, "Well, let's just let them be for a little while."
