"The Source of Darkness: Dead Moon Circus" is the 35th episode of the 4th season of the Sailor Moon anime and the 162nd episode overall. It aired in Japan on February 2, 1996. The CWi English dub title for this episode was "Show Time Showdown" and it aired in North America on November 10, 2000.
Summary[]
Pegasus insists that the Super Sailor Senshi do not go to the Dead Moon right away, as they are far too strong and dangerous. He is then asked by a suspicious Super Sailor Moon of who he truly is: That he is Helios, the high-priest of Elysion and guardian of lovely dreams.
Super Sailor Chibi Moon reveals that she had known all along of Pegasus not being capable of unleashing the full abilities and power of the Golden Crystal he carried. Pegasus urges them all to find the one who can utilize the Golden Crystal to defeat Queen Nehelenia before it is too late for both Earth and Elysion.
Plot[]
As the Dead Moon eclipses the Sun, Pegasus appears before the Sailor Senshi and Tuxedo Mask to explain to them his real identity of Helios, guardian of Elysium, and how the Dead Moon Circus had been banished for some time before people who abandoned their dreams when they were unable to fulfill them allowed Queen Nehelenia, the leader of the Dead Moon Circus, to escape her imprisonment. He reveals that the Golden Crystal, the horn on his head, has the power to save the world from Nehelenia, but in the wrong hands, it could destroy it. After Chibiusa and Pegasus reveal her ties to him and how it was her dreams that awakened him, but she is not the one who can awaken the Golden Crystal, he departs, asking the Senshi to find the one who can.
Back at Mamoru's apartment, he is still in extreme pain from the Earth suffering at the hands of the Dead Moon Circus, as Pegasus explains to them, and the Senshi are forced to leave him behind in the care of Luna, Artemis, and Diana while they go deal with Nehelenia once and for all.
However, upon reaching the street, they are confronted by the surviving Lemures of the Dead Moon Circus, who soon part to provide a clear path to the circus tent, only for the Amazoness Quartet to appear, forcing the Senshi to transform and face the Lemures before they can reach the tent and face the Quartet. In the tent, the Quartet call on Nehelenia to help them, and she powers up their orbs to give them an edge against the Senshi. Once facing the Senshi, the Quartet initially have the advantage as they subdue all the Senshi except Super Sailor Moon and Super Sailor Chibi Moon, but the Crystal Chime appears before Sailor Chibi Moon, allowing her to summon Pegasus, who frees the other Senshi, before Sailor Moon attempts to slay the Quartet with Moon Gorgeous Meditation, only for the attack to be intercepted by Zirconia. Following formal introductions of herself to the Senshi, Zirconia then uses Zircon as a golf ball, having Zircon ricochet around the arena before striking Sailor Chibi Moon from behind, extracting her Dream Mirror, which is revealed to be the Golden Mirror they had been seeking.
After Pegasus flies into Chibi Moon's mirror and she is able to somehow grab it and pull it back into herself, Zirconia traps her in a mirror, to the horror of the other Senshi. At his apartment, Mamoru feels another surge of agonized pain as he realizes Chibiusa is in grave danger, and back at the tent, Zirconia declares victory as they now have the holder of Pegasus and the Golden Crystal.

- While the curse did have Mamoru bed-ridden for a time, he still endured the pain and fought alongside the Sailor Senshi to defeat Nehelenia.
