"Believing in Love and the Future: Usagi’s Decision" is the 41st episode of the 2nd season of the Sailor Moon anime and the 87th episode overall. It aired in Japan on February 26, 1994. The DiC English dub title for this episode is "Diamond in the Rough" and it aired in North America on December 18, 1998.


The Sailor Guardians enter the growing Dark Crystal to stop the Wiseman, but Prince Demande abducts Sailor Moon one more time. After finally helping him realize what is going on, Demande ultimately sacrifices himself to allow her to save both the present and future.

Changes from the Manga

  • Prince Demande was killed by Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask using their combined power channeled through Cutie Moon Rod.

Dub Changes

  • The scene where Demande shakes Sailor Moon is cut in the initial English dub.
  • The scene where the Wiseman chokes Sailor Moon was edited out, despite the fact the latter was still shown holding her neck in the very next scene.
  • The scene where Demande bleeds after trying to kill Wiseman was cut.



  • The Sailor Says segment featured in this episode was previously featured in "Trouble Comes Thundering Down".
  • DiC's English dub title of this episode is a reference to Aladdin, the Cave of Wonders would only allow the Diamond in the Rough, which is Aladdin, to enter.
