Bakene is a cat-like Youma who is one of the Seven Great Youma of the Dark Kingdom. His normal form is Rhett Butler.
Nomenclature & Etymology[]
Bakene is a pun on the term 化猫 (bakeneko), which refers to a Japanese phantom cat.
Information[]
He was trapped inside the Violet Rainbow Crystal and reborn inside a cat named Rhett Butler. Zoisite extracted the crystal from him and transformed him into Bakene. He did not attack, due to his feelings of affection towards Luna. He was restored to his normal self after being healed by Sailor Moon.

Trivia[]
- Bakene appears as the first boss in the Super Famicom video game Sailor Moon. He is fought at Azabu-Juban.
- He was one of very few monsters-of-the-day to not attack the Sailor Senshi or anyone else; the others being Doorknobder and Ms. TogeToge.
- He is the only monster-of-the-day created from an animal.
- He is one of the three monster-of-the-day who retanins some conscience of his normal form, the other two being Bunbo, also from the Seven Great Youma, and Sailor Artist.
